ARTIST BIO
Melbourne/Naarm artist Karen Salter has developed a painting-based practice since completing a Diploma of Visual Arts in 2013.
Her work combines a passion for architectural forms, design references and urban history as well as drawing on her nostalgic yearnings for the more optimistic past of her childhood in the 1960s and 70s. Employing colour as a device to render form and depth on the 2-dimensional surface, Karen is interested in creating the illusion of reality rather than a literal interpretation of the subject matter.
Her work has been shown in solo exhibitions at Libby Edwards Galleries, Glen Eira City Council Gallery, Sofitel Melbourne on Collins and City Library Gallery.
She has been shortlisted for the Ravenswood Australian Women’s Art Prize and selected for the Bayside Local exhibition at Bayside Gallery. Her work has been shown in several group shows.
Karen has a Bachelor of Arts Interior Design from RMIT University and worked as a set designer/art director for television productions and in corporate events before focusing on art making.
